As the miles drop behind you a feeling of utter contentment permeates every inch of your being…Vacation…Vacation! For the next several days or a week no roaring of trucks, hailing rideshare, catching the train, no appointments or the hustle of everyday life. Your tires sing a quick song of deceleration as you see our directional sign…your car heals off Route 2, The Presidential Highway, you are now a mere 17 miles from Mount Washington. Down the twisting country road, across the Androscoggin River up the drive… you have arrived at Philbrook Farm Inn.
Our History
Almost 200 years ago in 1834, Harvey Philbrook and his bride Susannah arrived at this very same place to make it their home. The rocking chairs on the front porch face the Presidential Range and almost daily, amazing sunsets. The property consists of hiking trails managed and groomed by the local Shelburne Trails Club. Much of the Inn’s land holdings have been conserved with New Hampshire Fish and Game.
A Mountain Lover’s Paradise
Get ready to be thrilled by lakes and streams and woods and other mountains spread out around you while you relax after conquering, without much difficulty some of our nearby mountains…
How about taking a delicious picnic lunch and climbing 3750 feet up Shelburne-Moriah?...or 3775 feet up Middle Moriah? They are opposite The Farm on the other side of the Androscoggin River. Behind us within walking distance are Mt. Cabot, Mt. Crag, Mt. Hayes, The Mahoosuc Range, Mt. Surprise, and the Crow’s Nest.
The Presidentials, captained by Mt. Washington, are only a half-hour’s drive. This is just a quick peek at the almost countless mountains and trails for which this region is famous!
